Gosch’s Paddock

Working on a big-scale project like Gosch’s Paddock in the heart of Melbourne’s busy sporting precinct has been a dream come true. As the current base for the Melbourne Demons’ AFL and AFLW teams, we worked with Pitchcraft on this Melbourne Olympic Park Trust site.

At a glance, the project seemed easy, with the removal of four older poles to be replaced with four new 30m light towers with 32 150 lux LED Phillips Optivisions lighting systems. However, the site had several challenges, including environmental considerations, tricky site access, heritage-listed trees and the requirement for public access to remain open during the project’s duration. Plus, we had to consider the existing underground services without having plans or documentation that mapped them out! Thankfully our experienced team was able to reverse engineer plans with a slab scan and by analysing the concrete and steel to confirm the footings would safely hold the new poles and lights.

At Gosch’s Paddock, the Bewired team overcame all the challenges, drawing on our skills and experience to get the job done. We spent over 250 hours on the project, with over 100 hours spent on off-site preparation to ensure it was done right the first time. Truly a team effort on this one; we couldn’t be more proud of our work on Gosch’s Paddock.
